Hisui Iro is a versatile, green-hued turquoise used since the Muromachi period (1336-1573). This pigment, inspired by Hisui (jade and jadeite), symbolizes a calming of the mind. Jade and jadeite’s translation to Chinese is Kingfisher. The beauty of jade resembled the color of the kingfisher’s wings and it was thus given its name, Hisui.
